Technology Wreckology
Last Thursday I was merrily working on my computer, trying to make a movie and burn it to a CD for my Christmas letter. All of a sudden my system freezes up. Ok, reboot the computer, and to my horror, when it came back up, there was NOTHING on my desktop!! NADA! No matter what I tried to do in fixing this problem, it came back with 'Please Restart'.... !! Worked on it until 3:00 a.m, when it became very evident that I would have to summon professional help!
Well, I certainly wasn't going to call Dell or Microsoft and then get transferred to New Delhi and have to deal with those bozos, that's for sure!! I've had it up to my wazoo with that type of 'support'!! So, I decided it would be just better to pay for a technician to come out to the house, and so that's what I did. The shop I use is very reputable, close to my house and extremely good at fixing any computer problem......yeah sure, but the question was how much was all this going to cost!!

Well now it is Monday and I am slowly getting back to normal after my humongous computer crash. I am devastated. Are you ready for this?.......The total cost came to over $600 to get it fixed!! Hell, why don't I just leave my door wide open and have thieves come in and rob me blind, for God's sake!! It's one thing to have these computer guys recover all my data and get the computer working again.. but it's another thing to get my computer back exactly the way I had it before.... All my personal settings were changed and it took me all yesterday and last night to get things reloaded. A lot of my programs had to be reinstalled. One wouldn't work at first (my picture software), and I was really sweating it as its vital for my Ebay sales....
Finally I got it working thank god. HOURS of work though, and WHO THE HELL IS RESPONSIBLE for this crap!!? Why can't somebody do something about these virus creators?!! Who ARE these slime and have they nothing better to do than to just go around ruining people's lives???! WHO DO YOU SUE!??? It's just plain evil and it really makes me livid. Was up all night 2 nights in a row and lost a lot of time and money. The computer technician, who worked all weekend to recover my data, said I had about 5 viruses and trojan horses, but still is exactly sure why all my desktop and data disappeared. Gads, I have 2 spyware programs on my computer, Norton antivirus, do spam and spyware sweeps at least once a week, and STILL, get this crap!!! WHAT THE HELL!????
The computer guy came out on Friday and had to take my computer back to his shop with him to do the recovery. I saw what they have to do and it amazes me they know how to do this stuff.. They completely take out the hard drive and like detectives, dig into the bowels of the computer to find your data that an average person would never find. It had to have a completely new hard drive put in it, as my other one was fried. If it were a person, this was tantamount to a brain transplant. Can you believe this?? I just bought this computer about 2 years ago, so it is not that old! Geezus.
I came home and just sat down and cried and felt so utterly defeated. I just can't seem to get ahead. And of course I depend on the computer with my Ebay business for my income, especially at Xmas time. Good things all my Xmas presents are bought already and mostly already wrapped. But here I was planning at Xmas to pay back my mom and my sister money I still owe them from borrowing from them this past year, and that was going to be their primary gifts, but now that's shot to hell, And that's not even counting here the dentist bill, the foot doctor bill, the Ebay bill, yada yada.
I was supposed to get the computer back on Sat, but they guy was still struggling and working late to get it restored, so he said it would Sunday before he could bring it back. So yesterday morning, Sunday, I got up and made a nice breakfast with French toast and sausages, etc. as I thought the computer guy wouldn't be coming til sometime in the afternoon. Then he called and came over before I could eat my breakfast. So it sat there on my kitchen sink counter all day.. Never did eat it. I then I got busy on the computer after he left, and didn't end up eating dinner til 3 a.m!! Needless-to-say, by then I had sort of lost my appetite.. Gee, I wonder why...
Time to drown my sorrows in a few spiked Egg Nogs..... !
